Able Charities Inc. is a non-profit organization, incorporated in Virginia in 2014 with the express purpose of providing and maintaining group homes for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Able Charities is administered by a Board of Directors who serve on a voluntary basis for a three-year term. They apply their extensive professional and personal experiences, talents and knowledge to help Able Charities grow and develop successfully so that they can help meet the expanding need for group homes to serve the intellectually disabled of Fairfax County.
How it Began
The idea and plan to provide group homes arose in answer to the increased need for them that followed from the terms of the March 2012 Settlement Agreement between the U.S. Department of Justice and Commonwealth of Virginia. The Settlement requires the closure, over the next few years, of four of Virginia’s five Training Centers, which assist individuals with intellectual disabilities.
To increase its development, growth and success, Able Charities, Inc. has chosen to follow the example, business model, experience and advice of Marian Homes, Inc. a non-profit organization founded in 1996 which currently provides group homes for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Our Future
Able Charities, following the example of Marian Homes, is planning comprehensive fundraising efforts so as to gather the funds necessary to purchase our first group home within the next three years. Able Charities plans to work with the local Virginia communities and numerous organizations, to generate interest and develop needed resources to enhance the living conditions of residents while serving the needs of the Commonwealth.
We welcome the support and guidance of fellow Virginians, businesses and organizations in assisting us in meeting our goals to provide group homes to local individuals with intellectual disabilities.
